Interesting facts about plastics:

1. Nearly 79% of plastic waste goes into landfill, where only 9% was recycled. Over the last 70 years, the entire industry has been trying hard to deflect the public attention from the plastic issue, where the root of the issue is not about recycling plastic waste but plastic production.

2. Recycling is just a marketing gimmick instead of a "solution". Unlike paper products, the quality of most recycled plastic will degrade dramatically every time when down-cycled, therefore making them way less useful and inevitably become plastic waste that goes into landfill.

3. The largest plastic market currently is still packaging. This account for nearly 40% of the production. This will eventually become the largest driver of global oil demand, exceeding 50% by 2050.

4. Plastics was born out of war. After world war II, Dupont (the company who invented plastic, making plastic equipments) was trying to commercialize their plastics products into more consumers accessible materials.
